# AthenaHealth Add Codes To Encounter

> Tool used by the realtime coding workflow in the Agents Platform.

This document covers `athenahealth_add_codes_to_encounter`, a tool used by the realtime coding workflow in the Agents Platform.

## Authentication

Uses the existing connector credentials for the corresponding EHR. Credential fields are injected through integration credential bindings and are not shown as a per-run input.

## Purpose

Writes approved CPT/ICD/modifier coding data to AthenaHealth by porting Fleming's `addClaimsToEncounter` claim-creation flow.

`dry_run=true` is fully supported and returns the canonical payload that would be applied. When `dry_run=false`, the tool fetches encounter details, resolves the linked appointment id, builds Athena `claimcharges`, and posts them to `/v1/{practiceid}/appointments/{appointmentid}/claim` as form-encoded data.

## Inputs

See the tool's input schema in the agent Tools panel. Required fields are intentionally minimal and use the EHR-native unit name: encounter for AthenaHealth, appointment for DrChrono, visit for AdvancedMD.

## Output

Dry-run output returns `success=true`, `posted=false`, and the payload for biller review.

When called with `dry_run=false`, the tool returns `success=true`, `posted=true`, `external_claim_id`, `applied_charge_count`, and `raw_response` containing Athena claim ids.

## Human-readable text

The tool emits markdown for the feed: an `## AthenaHealth Dry Run` / `## AthenaHealth Codes Applied` summary table and a `## Charges` table (CPT, diagnosis, modifiers, POS, TOS, units, fee, note). The full payload and claim response stay in `structuredContent`.

## Workflow Guidance

Keep `dry_run=true` for first-pass coding suggestions. Call with `dry_run=false` only after biller approval and only with validated charges.
